Payback, it’s as simple as that.

The Millington Lady Trojans knew they gave the game away last week when they traveled to Houston and suffered an 8-6 defeat. The Lady Trojans were determined to not let it happen again.

Despite falling behind early, Millington roared back in the end and finished the regular season with a thrilling 11-10 win over the Lady Mustangs.  Victory was made possible on a game-winning single from freshman Kaleigh Wilston.

Millington’s Daphne Fowler made her presence known with a 4-4 night at the plate, scored two runs and drove in five including a laser beam over the fence in right center field to tie the game at 9 in the sixth inning.

Breanna Hulsey was 3-5 with a double, triple, stolen base and three RBIs. Hulsey’s primary work came in the circle as she shut down Houston on four hits and only one run over the last four and 2/3 innings.

Another Millington player to contribute was Rilee Ervin with three hits as well in addition to scoring four runs. Millington jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one inning. Ervin and Fowler opened the inning with singles and both scored on the Hulsey triple. Kaleigh Wilston knocked in the final run of the frame.

Houston answered with five in the top of the second, all coming with two outs. Millington responded with a pair of runs as Allix Gordon reached on an error. Ervin followed with a two-out single. Fowler doubled in both runners.  As the Lady Trojans came up to bat in the bottom of the fourth, they now trailed 9-5. Gordon beat out the throw from the bunt for an infield single and Shelby Pindell laced a ball to center field for a base hit. Ervin reached on an error to load the baes setting the table for Fowler.

Fowler singled to center scoring Gordon and Pindell and it was a 9-7 game. Hulsey followed that with a double scoring Ervin and it was a one-run game.

The score remained until the sixth. Fowler homered to lead off the inning and tied the score. Hulsey singled, stole second and went to third on a ground out. Emma Smith laid down a bunt but Houston got Hulsey in a rundown and tagged her out at the plate for the second out of the inning. However, Smith took second on the play and it ended up being significant because Aleeah Fiene stepped up and doubled down the left field line and Smith scored with the go-ahead run.

Houston tied in the top of the seventh. The Lady Trojans got the walk-off when  Wilston singled to right field for the win.
