Millington Lions Club Foundation provides sight and hearing service as well as supporting local community projects.

“We will now sponsor one day each quarter this year for the Laundry Love program,” said Millington Lions Club President Linda Overstreet.

St. Anne’s Episcopal Church Laundry Love program is a Millington based outreach serving marginalized individuals, low-income families, and single parents with children who are struggling financially.

By providing them with a means to have clean clothes and bedding, they seek to bring economic relief by giving these folks the ability to redirect funds towards food, medicine, gas for transportation, and other basic necessities.

“The profound effect of providing clean clothes and linens to those who are challenged daily to survive helps to raise their self worth and dignity,” Overstreet added, “especially the children who are less likely to be singled out for peer abuse and bullying.”

The events are held every two weeks on Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. at Spin City Laundry Mat on Navy Road in Millington and usually cost about $250 per event for the quarters and laundry supplies for the guests.

Lions have also provided eye exams and glasses to several of these guests. The Laundry Love initiative was started in May 2017 and has served more than 200 individuals, seniors, families and children from the Millington area. Referrals come from the Millington Municipal Schools, the Millington Food Pantry, and the Millington Crisis Center.
