Under the direction of Coach T. Taylor and Coach LaTesa Douglas, the Millington Middle Trojan Track and Field program has been opening the eyes of everyone in the area.

Last week the girls team were sectional champs and nine student-athletes qualified for the State championships Saturday at Fortera Stadium in Clarksville on the campus of Austin Peay State University.

The Lady Trojans came back with two State titles, a couple of second place finishes and one bronze medal. Along with a sixth-place finish, Millington girls earned second place out of 30 teams as they finished with the silver medal with 45 points.

The 4x200m relay team of Jhada Swain, Savannah Keys and the duo of Efe and Ejeh Aigbomian won the gold with a time of 1:52:18 which was a full second better than the next closest team.

This is the second straight State championship that Millington has won the girls 4x200m relay. Ejeh won gold in the long jump and Efe was second and with jumps that were a full foot longer than anyone else.

Efe added a second place finish in the 200m. Ejeh was third in the 400m and Keys was sixth in the shot put.

Katelynn Blades finished 11th and Savannah Keys finished 15th in the discus.

On the boys side, Colin Haynes finished 10th in the discus and Evan Anderson was 16th in the 800m run.

The middle school track and field championships were started in 2016 and the Lady Trojans have had success numerous times at the highest level. The girls set a State record in 2019 in the 4x400m relay of 4:23:97, won the 4x200m relay and finished fourth in the team standings.

In 2018, they finished 10th in the team standings. In 2017, the Lady Trojans finished sixth in the team standings and won the 4x400m relay setting a State record in the event.

In 2016, they finished seventh in the team standings behind first place finishes by Aliyah Williamson in the 800m & 1600m.
