Hope Homecare owner LeeEva Hickerson reviews some paperwork with Administrative Director Geraldine Williams last week as the home care agency prepares to hire caregivers soon.
Hope Home care & Personal Support Agent owner LeeEva Hickerson is combining her passion and compassion to benefit Millington. Growing up in the Rosemark area and graduating from Bolton High School in 1999, Hickerson saw a need in her community. While attending UT-Martin, Hickerson was building toward her career in health and home care. After earning her degree in Behavioral Health in 2005, receiving a license from the state of Tennessee and compiling 15 years of experience in the industry, Hickerson recently opened Hope Home care at 4800 Navy Road Suite No. 3. In addition Hickerson is even more motivated to provide her hometown with home care after the passing of her father Robert and currently watching her mother battle stage-four kidney failure. “Hope Home care is a non-medical person support service located in Millington, Tenn,” she explained. “We choose H.O.P.E. Because hope stands for Heart Open to People Everywhere. “I used to do case management out here in Millington for several years,” Hickerson added. “I also did case management in Memphis as well. I worked for several home care agencies throughout that time. I noticed that in the city of Millington, we do not have a home care agency. We have different physicians. But we don’t have home care. The location was a great place for us to start HOPE.” Along with administrative director Geraldine Williams, the licensed home care facility assists clients on site and offers services to set up home care for the disabled, mentally disabled and veterans. HOPE works along with the VetAssist Program. The non-medical services provided by HOPE are bathing, grooming, hygiene, mobile assistance, feeding assistance, home care services, companionship, laundry, light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation assistance and 24-hour home care. “We do all population, disable and non-disable,” Hickerson said. “We specialize in senior care and mental health. That’s where I have my expertise in. We also do cancer patients. “We would love to do Millington and the Navy Base,” she added. “The veterans are one of our target groups because we do have a contract with the Vets Assistance Program.” Hickerson said she is grateful for several people making it possible for her to open HOPE Home care in Millington like the Jack Tickle Co. Because of the doors opened for her, Hickerson is welcoming all who are looking for certified, professional home care to stop by HOPE’s location across the street from Taco Bell. Hickerson said she has a deep love and appreciation for the elderly being raised by her grandmother Lucille. Now she is giving back by looking out for her mother Evelyn who is battling kidney failure. With those motivating factors, Hickerson is driven to take care of the those who are in need in the Millington and surrounding areas. And Hickerson wants to pay tribute to her late father Robert, who was a 30-year employee with TDOT. He passed away in Nov. 2013 at the age of 51. “No. 1, we want to bring the awareness that there are services out there for seniors, for the vets to have someone come in and help them with their daily activities that they need,” she said. “To bring awareness that in anybody’s situation, there is hope at the end of the tunnel. “Unfortunately my Dad died of cancer,” Hickerson concluded. “But I know this is something he could want me to continue is give that hope to people and provide that home care for those who are in need.”
