Millington Central High School senior Kathleen Curtis introduced herself to golf this summer.

Tthe relationship quickly has paid off with Curtis’ success on the links for the Lady Trojans. Once the season wrapped up at Regionals, Curtis started to receive offers.

Today in the MCHS Library Curtis inked her national letter of intent to play golf for Coach Monte Cunningham in McKenzie at Bethel University.

“It’s kind of surprising because I’ve only been playing for six months,” Curtis said. “I just listen to everything Coach told me and I just put my heart into it. I made sure I did what I needed to do each do.”

Curtis’ coaches Kelsey Mobley and Scott Schwartz helped guide her to heights she couldn’t imagine.

“I became the No. 1 golfer for majority of season and won team MVP award leading to the team to Regionals,” Curtis noted. “I didn’t know we even had a girls’ golf team. When I heard about it I was like, ‘It won’t hurt to try.’”

Her trying led to signing day with family, friends and administrators celebrating the milestone. Joining Kathleen were grandparents Jan Curtis and Mike Walker. Baby sister Taylor took turns being held by parents Victoria and Tony Curtis.

Kathleen said she is grateful for the support she has enjoyed her entire life and season of golf. Now her signing to Bethel marks a new chapter in her golf career.

“I’m hoping I can continue to grow as a golfer and learn new things out there on the course,” she said. “I’m hoping to reach the LPGA one day.”

Dreaming bigger dreams, Kathleen said the game has already blessed her in many ways.

“I have learned that patience is very important,” she said. “I got super frustrated at times. Coach was like calm down and just take your time. So I learned a lot about patiences and following instructions.

“I’m pretty ecstatic about it,” Kathleen concluded. “It is a big honor and I didn’t expect it.”
