WWII veteran John Abbott celebrated his 101st birthday on Nov. 4 with Kickin’ Pony at Abandoned Antiques. Guests were numerous, as well as smiles, hugs and laughter. Veterans from many organizations, including the Combat Vets Association, attended, brought gifts and honored Abbott on his special day. Janine Stange, also known as the National Anthem Girl, shared news of his birthday with her followers, and Abbott received cards from all over the country. Members of the community, including students at Millington Central High School, also sent cards, which Abbott enjoyed opening when he wasn’t dancing or singing with the band. The Mid-South Military Museum and River City Chapter, NSDAR provided the decorations and refreshments.
