Earlier this month a Millington man was arrested after police say he tortured and killed a dog.

On July 5, the Millington Police Department said 32-year-old Cordell Mack was charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals for allegedly setting a dog on fire and stabbing it to death.

According to the report, the call came in that morning about 10:55 and the MPD arrived on the scene about 11 a.m. on Tecumseh Street. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the complainant who advised the officer that his neighbor, who lived a few houses down, set a black and gray pitbull on fire and beat the dog with a weapon.

The suspect was also accused of trying to set two German Shepherds on fire at the complainant’s residence.

Mack was taken into custody by the officers and transported to the headquarters.

Animal services were called but refused to take the pitbull.

The pitbull was deceased due to the injuries before the officer made the scene.
