NEWS ALERT- Lalania Vaughn Accepted into WestTeach Leadership Program

Fine arts director named as representative for Shelby County

Lalania Vaughn, Director of Fine Arts at Tipton-Rosemark Academy, was named the representative for Shelby County for the 2021 WestTeach Leadership Program. Vaughn was nominated to participate in the program based on her leadership achievements and potential to contribute to the region’s education system. Vaughn has been selected seven times by the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts as an “Outstanding Music Educator in Tennessee.” In 2018, she received a U.S. Congressional commendation for her 20 years of dedication to TRA Fine Arts and her service as an

“Advocate for the Arts” across Tennessee and the U.S. Vaughn also served as the President for the West TN Vocal Music Educators Association from 2014-2016 and served on the WTVMEA Executive Council. She has directed 35 shows with the TRA Theatre Department. She is a six time nominee for the Orpheum Theatre’s “Outstanding Musical Direction” Award and won “Outstanding Musical Direction” for TRA’s production of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” “I am honored to be chosen for the 2021 WestTeach Leadership Program,” says Vaughn. “Being an educator for over 22 years has been the most rewarding career. Helping students discover and achieve their full potential and having the opportunity to daily invest in our future leaders is a privilege I do not take lightly. Education truly is the bedrock that will impact our future economic development, health and safety, and a better quality of life across West Tennessee.” The WestTeach mission is to engage and equip West Tennessee teachers with tools and leadership skills for success. The teachers will have an opportunity during this program to gain insight into the economic needs and opportunities in the area. During the program, the teachers will build relationships with industry and community leaders and participate in exercises that stimulate real-life scenarios current students are confronted with.
