NEWS ALERT- Millington Police issues BOLO for Officer Safety, Suspect shot in Cordova

On Tuesday at about 1 p.m., a male came to the Millington Police Department headquarters located at 7950 Memphis Avenue to report an assault that occurred in Memphis.

The person was advised to contact the Memphis Police Department to make the report. At about 4 p.m., the same subject returned to Millington Police Department requesting to make a report. Two officers approached the vehicle and noticed a rifle sitting in the front seat.

Officers asked the subject to exit the vehicle at which time he sped off. Millington Police did not have any charges on the subject but was able to get a license plate number. An officer safety BOLO was issued because of his erratic behavior and was known to be armed.

This same subject was encountered later in the evening by the Shelby County Sheriff Office. 

This same subject was encountered later in the evening by the Shelby County Sheriff Office. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has identified the man killed in the Shelby County officer-involved shooting as John Hunt of Memphis.

The TBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Shelby County that left a man dead early Wednesday morning.

At around 10:45 Tuesday night, deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spotted a vehicle near Houston Levee and Pisgah Road in Cordova that was the subject of a BOLO out of Millington.

Deputies report they initiated a traffic stop, but claim the driver did not comply with officers’ orders to get out of the vehicle, resulting in a standoff. As the situation escalated, the Shelby County SWAT Team responded to the scene.
