NEWS ALERT: Possible winter weather heading toward Mid-South

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of the Mid-South. The advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday.

The area affected is north of Shelby County in Tennessee and parts of east Arkansas. Snow, sleet and ice accumulations of up to two inches can be expected in the advisory area. Freezing rain can be expected.

Counties under the advisory include:

Randolph, Clay, Lawrence, Greene, Craighead, Poinsett, Mississippi, Dunklin, Pemiscot, Lake, Obion, Weakley, Henry, Dyer, Carroll, Benton, Lauderdale, Shelby, Tipton, Haywood, Crockett, Madison, Chester, Henderson, Decatur and Hardin.

Since 2014, the Memphis area has experienced winter weather in January, February and March leading to closing of schools, businesses and cancellations of events.
