Star Staff Report

The Millington Fire and Police departments received a call at 11:45 p.m. last night about an 18-wheeler truck crashing into the front entrance of the Kroger store located at 8039 Highway 51 in Millington.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the red semi-truck entered the Kroger creating a disturbance.

Allegedly he left the store, got in his truck, and intentionally drove his 18-wheeler truck through the front entrance.

The driver was attempting to leave the scene when MPD officers arrived on the scene. He was removed from the vehicle and placed in custody.

The Millington and Shelby County Fire personnel had to remove the truck’s roof to recover the truck from the building. Several Kroger employees were in the building at the time. There were no injuries.

The driver has been identified as Clarence Carter, 45-year-old, of Nashville. He was transported to Regional One in Memphis for medical evaluation prior to his arrest. He is currently in custody and has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, vandalism and resisting arrest.

The damaged area has been secured and the Kroger store is open for business.
