The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Millington Police Department lost one of their own in the line of duty yesterday. On Aug. 9, the TBI identified the agent who was shot and killed in Jackson as former Millington Police officer De’Greaun Frazier. Special Agent Frazier, 35, was killed during a ‘controlled buy’ on Brianfield Cove about 2 p.m. Frazier joined the TBI in February after his time with the Millington Police Department. Frazier joined TBI back in February, following a career as a police officer with the Millington Police Department. In that capacity, he also served on a DEA Task Force. “Agent Frazier was exactly what we look for in a TBI agent: hard-working, enthusiastic, and dedicated to making Tennessee a better place to live,” TBI Director Mark Gwyn said last Tuesday. “We are deeply saddened by his death and will work aggressively to investigate this case to its fullest. His commitment to our agency and public service will not be forgotten.” Frazier known as “Dee” worked his way to the TBI through local law enforcement. He obtained a solid reputation as an officer with the Millington Police Department starting in 2010. Frazier was a part of the MPD Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force. He also handled investigations and was a dog handler for the MPD. In six months on the job with the TBI, Frazier was on a assignment trying to bust a drug reign. According to TBI on Aug. 9, Frazier was shot while working with the Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics on undercover assignment operation on Brianfield Cove that afternoon. About 2 p.m., Frazier was in a car with an informant and another man, alleged to be Brenden Tyler Burns, conducting an undercover drug purchase. The other man was sitting in the back seat and he pulled a gun and tried to rob Frazier and the informant.
The gunman fired once striking Frazier. The gunman exited the car and ran before being captured on Tinker Hill Cove, less than a half-mile from the shooting scene. Later that evening, Frazier was pronounced dead at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
