The ‘Season of Giving’ is year round for the board members of the Millington Education Foundation.

Many of those MEF members were on hand in Millington’s Olympic Steak & Pizza located at 8500 Wilkinsville Road on Nov. 19 for the annual MEF Appreciation Breakfast for sponsors. The meal featuring traditional Southern breakfast treats was sponsored by Love Worth Finding and MEF Chairman Cary Vaughn.

A few sponsors took advantage of the generous gesture to enjoy the meal, get an update on MEF funding and hear the gratitude from Millington Municipal Schools Superintendent James “Bo” Griffin.

Griffin even put his money where his heart has been since he was a coach and educator back in the late 1990s. On behalf of the Griffin family, he donated $1,000. That sparked more generosity from some in attendance pouring into the MEF.

Vaughn recognized a few of the 2024 sponsors who contributed to about $13,000 in grants for Millington Primary School, Millington Intermediate School and Millington Central Middle High School: Boatwright Pharmacy, Cody and Mary Beth Childress, Love Worth Finding, American Legion 252, Living Water, Edward Jones (Robert Wharton), Five Star Real Estate (Sue Ann Cobb), Homer Skelton Ford, Homer Skelton Jeep Chrysler, InSouth Bank, Hope Primary Care, Jim Craig, Millington Airport Authority, Patriot Bank, Scooter’s Coffee, Real Estate Mart, Reed Family Dentistry, Ritter Communication, Smith Investments, Trustmark Bank and many individuals.

Ron Wells with the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce concluded that portion of the program announcing with the hard work of John Rountree the Chamber will be presenting a check for $8,000. The funds were raised by the annual Chamber Golf Tournament.

In addition the Chamber will present $500 each to Tipton-Rosemark Academy and Faith Heritage.

The mission statement of the Millington Education Foundation is to generate and distribute resources for the benefit of the Millington Schools to enrich, maintain and expand programs needed to meet the schools stated mission of excellence in education.

The goals of MEF are to promote and enhance educational excellence by providing independent funding that would not typically be covered by the school budget for worthy educational projects, enrichment programs, and other educational initiatives beyond the standard curriculum.

Foster a culture of excellence in the Millington Schools by inspiring students and supporting teachers with innovative learning opportunities.

Enrich the public school curriculum with programs and activities that expose students to diverse learning experiences, and challenge students to reach well beyond their current abilities.

Offer members of the Millington community a channel to contribute to education and strengthen the future of our City.

Grant information can be found online at www.millingtoneducationfoundation.org

One way the Millington Education Foundation’s mission is accomplished is through a Grant Program available to all teachers in the Millington Municipal Schools each year. These grants are used to carry out innovative projects that enrich the standard curriculum in ways that directly affect students’ day-to-day classroom experiences as well as improve the education system as a whole.
