DARRELL BOYER

Darrell Gene Boyer began his journey on February 4, 1936 when he was born to his parents, Ernest and Sylvia Boyer, in a little house on the Cimmaron River in Payne County, Oklahoma. He grew up on a small farm outside of Stillwater, Okla., where he developed a love of working with his hands and became a skilled carpenter and handyman. He used these abilities over the years to help others, but especially used these skills in his own home and in the homes of his children. Beyond whatever project was at hand, his children knew they would be blessed by just being in the company of their daddy. He modeled faithfulness, hard work, and clever thinking in all he did. He met his future wife and soon to be best friend, Marilyn, at the youth center of Bellevue Baptist Church while he was stationed at NAS Memphis and she was a nursing student at Baptist Memorial School of Nursing. After his tour in Hawaii and her completion of nursing school, they married on October 6, 1957 and enjoyed nearly 64 years of life together as a married couple. Darrell served in the United States Navy for 22 years and retired as Senior Chief, Aviation Technician. After retirement, he continued his education at the University of Memphis where he obtained his B.S. in Professional Studies and his Master’s in Counseling. Later, after working for H&R Block, he established Boyer’s Tax Facts which he maintained for more than 25 years. During their life together, Darrell and Marilyn both served multiple churches around the world and after retiring in Millington in 1976 they came back to First Baptist Church, Millington, where they continued to serve. He loved Jesus and displayed His mercies to all he met. He loved his wife with an unconditional love, even if it meant painting the living room three different colors in one day. He was a dedicated father to his five children and their families, Darrell and Cathy Boyer and family of Orlando, FL, Karroll and Jim Warberg and family of Millington, TN, Bruce and Mary Boyer and family of Millington, Michel and Jeniver Boyer and family of Grafton, WV, and Andrea and Craig Campbell of Bartlett. He was known as Grandpa and Pops to his 14 grandchildren and their spouses, as well as his 7 (soon to be 8) great grandchildren. Darrell was at home with his family when he entered the presence of his heavenly Father on August 13, 2021. He will always be remembered for his love, his mercy, his wisdom, and his strength. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel and the funeral will be held at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church on 3099 West Union Road, Millington, TN at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021.
