JAMES ‘DALTON’ BONE
James “Dalton” Bone, 95, passed away on February 5, 2026. Born on March 2, 1930, Dalton lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to his faith, his family, and his community. Dalton dedicated 37 years of service to W.R. Grace, where he was known for his strong work ethic and steady character. A faithful member of Crosspointe Baptist Church, he found great joy in worship and fellowship. He had a deep love for the simple pleasures in life — traveling in the motor home and camping, fishing, playing cards, listening to Western books, and sharing stories with family. He was also an avid fan of University of Memphis basketball and rarely missed a chance to cheer on his team. More than anything, Dalton treasured time spent with those he loved. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Shook; his son, James Dalton Bone, Jr.; his parents, Lois A. Bone and Eva Monema Bone; and his brothers, Adron Bone and Ralph Bone.Dalton is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Ann Bone, with whom he shared 75 wonderful years of marriage; his daughters, Belinda (John) Jamison, Jenny (David) Carey, and Marie (James) Allen; his sons, Jimmy O’Neal and Jerry (Donna) Word; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and faith. Visitation was held on Feb. 10, at Munford Funeral Home – Millington Chapel, with the funeral service. The graveside service will take place at Eastview Cemetery in Union City, on Friday, February 13 at 1 p.m. Dalton will be remembered for his steady presence, his warm storytelling, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends.
MADDIE LAVERNE ARMSTRONG JOHNSON
Maddie Laverne Armstrong Johnson, 83, of Drummonds, passed away on January, 29, 2026 in Douglasville, Ga. There was a visitation for Mrs. Johnson on Feb. 6 at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, in Munford. There was an additional viewing on Feb. 7 with her funeral service at First Presbyterian Church, in Memphis. Interment took place on Feb. 8 at Armstrong Family Cemetery, in Drummonds. Jefferson Mortuary, Inc. had charge.
RITA JUSTICE
Rita Justice, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away surrounded by family on January 24, 2026. The family received friends at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel in Millington on Feb. 7 until the Celebration of Life service where family and friends gathered to honor her memory and share the countless stories of the love she gave so freely.
JOSEPH BARTON SIMMONS
Joseph Barton Simmons, 93, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at the Tennessee Veterans Home in Humboldt, following a short bout with pneumonia. Joseph was born on May 13, 1932, in Lauderdale County. Some knew him as Joe, others as Barton, and he was lovingly known by friends, family, and the local community as Granddaddy. In 1952, he married Clara Dean Hughey, with whom he shared 57 devoted years of marriage and raised their family together. Clara preceded him in death in 2009. In 2011, Joseph married Gloria Jett of Kentucky, who also preceded him in death in 2021. In 1953, Joseph proudly joined the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Toledo during the Korean War. He completed his honorable service in 1957 and carried lifelong pride in serving his country. Following his military service, Joseph built a long and successful career with IBM, where he worked until his retirement in 1999. He was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and reliability. Granddaddy was a devoted member of Gateway Baptist Church in Atoka, Tennessee, where his faith was central to his life. He was also a devoted member of the Gideons, faithfully sharing God’s Word by visiting hospitals and distributing Scripture to those in need. Granddaddy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Dean Burk, beloved wife of Steven Burk, who passed away on January 6, 2024, and by his great-grandson, Dashiell (Dash) Huie, who passed away in 2017. He is survived by his children: Debra Lynn Elkins of Brighton, and her husband Mike Elkins; Joseph Simmons Jr. of Brighton, Tennessee, and his wife Lisa Simmons; and Teresa Bentley of Eads, and her husband Kevin Bentley. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, along with the husbands and wives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were a constant source of pride and joy. Through his marriage to Gloria Jett, Granddaddy was blessed with a large extended family, including stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends who remained dear to him. Services were held at Gateway Baptist Church, Atoka, on Feb. 6. A graveside service followed at Memphis Memory Gardens, in Memphis.

Willie Binford Turner, 90, of Brighton, passed from this life on January 31, 2026. Funeral service was held Feb. 5 at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington. Interment followed at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery. Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home had charge.
