JAMES E. CARLISLE
James E. Carlisle, 92, of Millington, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on February 19, 2021 at the Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, N.M. He died from bone marrow and blood cancer diseases. He was preceded in death by his parents, John V. and Pauline Goldsby Carlisle; brother, John L. Carlisle; sisters, Frances C. Ferguson D, Sue Carlisle Phillips and Dorothy Carlisle Vincent. Jim was born October 21, 1928 in Lucy in a white frame house across from Lucy School. He was a lifelong member of Lucy Baptist Church having been baptized with his sister Jean in 1938. He served in areas of usher and welcome, building and grounds, Sunday School director and Training Union director/leader. He was a CPL in the US Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean conflict. Jim retired from DuPont with 25 years, and was active doing the bush hogging work. He was an expert gardener always giving fruits of his labor to family and friends. He was an avid coon, deer, squirrel and rabbit hunter, enjoyed fishing, and especially enjoyed his grandsons. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, JoeAnn Stotts Carlisle; three daughters, Rachel Carlisle Benedict (Gary) of Beaumont, Texas, Brenda Carlisle “Pnut” Chaffin (Bill) of Las Cruces, N.M., and Wanda Carlisle “Puggy” Raffanti (Chris) of Millington; grandsons, Colton Samuel Chaffin (Cheyenne) of Jackson, Taylor Carlisle Benedict of Beaumont, Texas ; sister, Jean Carlisle Fitts of Bartlett. The family received friends Feb. 27 until the service at Lucy Baptist Church. Interment followed in Big Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Las Cruces First Baptist Church in Las Cruces, N.M.; Lucy Baptist Church; or the charity of choice.
FLORENCE MARIE YATES CRAMER
Florence Marie Yates Cramer, 96, was born in Ripley, October 28, 1924 to Dr. Vivian W. Yates and Flora Sue Murphy Yates. She passed away peacefully on Sunday February 7, 2021 in Milton, Fla. Her father, Dr. Yates, was a Tennessee State Veterinarian and her mother, Flora Sue, was a piano, voice and organ teacher and was widely known for her radio broadcasting in the 1930s. Florence was an active member of Millington Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, clerk of session, Sunday school teacher, and Delegate to the Presbytery. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Millington chapter, where she served as a Warden, Associate Conductress, and organist and in 1988 she was a Worthy Matron. Florence retired from civil service with 30 years service in many departments of the Navy. She acquired a secret clearance in order to administer officer and enlisted exams. She was secretary to the Senior Chaplain, as well as bookkeeper for three Chaplain funds (Protestant, Catholic and Jewish). She was founder and manager of the 1st Chapter of Federal Employee Women at NAS Memphis. She was in charge of the Marine Toys for Tots Program. She handled the indoctrination of new employees. Florence filled in as a pianist during the Memphis and Millington yearly base-wide youth summer program for disadvantaged area youths. After retirement she remained active in the Millington chapter of Federally Retired Employees,(NARFE) serving as secretary and president. During retirement she volunteered as “Pet Therapist” at Millington Retirement and Nursing Home by visiting patients weekly with her much-loved service dog “Cotton” and had pictures of Cotton and the residents made for their enjoyment. She also started a hobby of raising canaries and enrolled in genealogy classes at the main library, Memphis. Her instructor, a retired history professor soon learned she was eligible for membership in many historical organizations. These include: United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), Daughters of the War of 1812, Daughters of Indian Wars, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Daughters of American Colonists and Pilgrims (Jamestown), National Society of Dames and Barons, Descendants of the Magna Charta, as well as being a descendant of King Charlemagne. In 2004 she moved to Florida and lived with her daughter Kathy Marie Fisher and son-in-law Gary, until the Lord called her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo W. Cramer, U.S.N. Retired; a son, Wesley Y. Cramer; a stepson, Marvin Lee Cramer, and two grandsons, David Cramer and Richard Cramer. She is survived by a son, Michael A. Cramer (Nancy) of Water Valley, MS; her daughter, Kathy Fisher (Gary) of Milton, Fla.,; three granddaughters Stephanie Pilkington (Kenny), Shari McDermott (Shannon); Cindy Cramer Lindsey, four grandsons William Cramer, Michael Lee (Diane) Cramer, Danny (Nancy) Cramer, Ronnie (Cheryl) Cramer and a number of great- and great-great grandchildren. Memorial Services to honor Florence’s life will be held at a later date to be announced at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery in Millington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Shriners Children’s Hospital. “Don’t think of me as gone, I am with you each new day” Love, Mom’

Mrs. Linda Jean Fleming, 66, of Millington, passed away February 13, 2021 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis. There was a walk-through viewing for Mrs. Fleming on Feb. 21 with a memorial service at Millington Church Of Christ, in Millington.Interment took place on Feb. 23 at St. John Community Cemetery, in Atoka. Shelby Jean LaMountain, 84, of Millington, passed away peacefully at her home on February 11, 2021. Visitation were held Feb. 23, with services following all at the Munford Funeral Home-Munford Chapel. Interment followed in Randolph Cemetery. Munford Funeral Home had charge.

Pastor Johnny McNeal, 71, of Atoka, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis. A walk-through only viewing for the general public was held on Feb. 26, at Tipton Church Of God In Christ, in Munford. Mask and social distancing are required. There was a Private Celebration of Life Service for Pastor McNeal which was streamed from “The Garden Live” Facebook page. Jefferson Mortuary, Inc. had charge.

Sandra Lucille Wilbourn, 67, of Millington, passed away February 21, 2021 at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis. There was a walk-through viewing for Mrs. Wilbourn on Feb. 27 with a private memorial service at Jefferson Mortuary, in Millington. Jefferson Mortuary, Inc. had charge.
LORRAINE McMILLIN
Lorraine Dolan McMillin, born May 30, 1926, died peacefully after a brief illness on Feb. 15, 2021, at her Forest Lakes home in Raleigh. She was 94 and predeceased by her husband, JD. An avid dancer for many years, especially at Raleigh Senior Center, Lorraine’s spirit will forever fox trot in the memories of those she loved, encouraged and delighted.She leaves behind three children who were dedicated to her care for several years — sons Chester McMillin (Judy) and Richard McMillin and daughter Linda Onsby; a surviving sister, Nadine Adkins; a devoted caregiver, Jennifer Crowder; four grandchildren — Zack McMillin (Aimee), Jill Woods (Matt), Justin Onsby (Ashley) and Jennifer Cobb (Sam); and, nine great-grandchildren. Born Annie Dolan to Raymond Earl and Cordia Dolan in Drummonds, she fondly recalled growing up “in the country” with siblings Nadine, the late John Dolan (Alice) and the late Joyce Clinger (Bill). She often told of riding a horse to grammar school (it returned to the farm on its own). Her love for dancing began when older kids gave her coins to do the Charleston. She played forward in 6-on-6 basketball for Munford High School. After marrying fellow Munford graduate JD, she lived in military housing in San Francisco in WW II. The GI Bill later led to married student housing at Memphis State. JD’s career at Firestone brought a 2-year stay in New Zealand — Lorraine left with 2 sons (Chester and the late Larry McMillin) and returned to Memphis with a 3rd (Richard). Daughter Linda arrived a few years later at their house in Frayser. Lorraine supported JD’s ventures, including his own firm, McMillin Import Co. Lorraine and JD gave their children and grandchildren all the love and resources they could offer. Her grandchildren recall she called Raleigh home Grand Central Station — their friends were always welcome. Lorraine cherished traveling the country and world with JD, often on bus tours. On her last journey from Memphis, for a granddaughter’s wedding in Austin, Texas, Grandmother relished the joyous occasion as beloved matriarch of the family. She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly. She showed what it means to be kind and patient unconditionally.
