The 2020 TSSAA Soccer season kicked off for the Millington Lady Trojans at Hornet Field Aug. 24 under ideal conditions weatherwise.
But the new reality of living during a global pandemic forced players from Millington and the visiting FACS Lady Crusaders to stay six-feet a part on the bench, not to share water bottles or food and have awkward pregame chants.
By the time the official blew the whistle to start the 80 minutes of action, the girls got into the smoothly leading to a 2-2 tie. Millington under the guidance of coaches Rosemary Boswell and William Carter fought evenly with the Lady Crusaders from start to finish.
Both squads controlled the ball about the same pace and rate of time. Despite FACS getting a few more shots on goal in the first half, Lady Trojan goalie Koreena Bedford was up to the challenge snagging the soccer ball out of thin air multiple times.
To answer the pair of goal from FACS, the Lady Trojans received points from senior Alexis Jordan and sophomore Alexis “Lexi” Thompson. The Lady Trojans earned win No. 1 on the season a couple of days later at home beating area rival Brighton.
