It was time for some Saturday Night Football in Rosemark, Tenn.
As the triple digit heat index cooled down over the Rebel Football Stadium, the action heated up the atmosphere between the visiting Overton Wolverines and host Tipton-Rosemark Academy Rebels. Throughout the first 24 minutes of action, the sunset over Kerr-Rosemark Road cooled the temperatures.
But it appeared the tempers of the players got hot as several personal foul penalty flag flew in the air contrasting the yellow cloth against the lush green grass. The Wolverines’ trash talking and TRA retaliation was mixed in with a few big plays giving Overton a 14-7 advantage at the break. The final score of the contest was 56-22 in favor of Overton.
The Wolverines (1-1) got on the scoreboard first when Demoris Richmond Jr. caught a 37-yard TD pass from Damion Mitchell. Overton added the two-point conversion to jump ahead 8-0 less than 5 minutes into the game. Overton’s next touchdown came in the second quarter when Wilbur Jackson took a hand off 14 yards to the house. The Wolverines were ahead 14-0 early in the second quarter. New TRA Head Coach William Dean and staff challenged their players to keep their composure and play discipline football. The Rebels (1-1) stepped up the call and drove down the field for a touchdown.
Junior quarterback Sam Cannon darted a pass to Nic Neumann for a touchdown with 5:14 remaining in the first half. The TRA deficit was a touchdown at halftime.
The Wolverines pulled away in the final two quarters outscoring TRA 42-15. Rosemark’s second half touchdowns were scored by Payne Fullen on a long run and Tyler Byrd with a TD reception.
