Panthers sweep Cougars in doubleheader

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bartlett 63, Munford 58

The best way to prepare for February-style basketball is play some of the teams you might see during the postseason.

In recent years in District 13-3A Dyer County has been a force winning the league last season. And during that stretch, the Bartlett Lady Panthers have been a power in Region 7-3A.

The Munford Lady Cougars had those challenges awaiting them during the week of Jan. 19-22. Both Bartlett and Dyer County would make the trip to Tipton County for showdowns in the Munford Gymnasium.

First up was Bartlett Jan. 19. The Lady Cougars were up for the challenge taking a 17-12 lead after one quarter. Munford was even ahead 30-28 at the break.

Then the Lady Panthers used a solid defensive third quarter to take the lead and eventually prevailed 63-58.
BOYS BASKETBALL: Bartlett 41, Munford 35

In what could be a Region 7-3A Boys Basketball Tournament preview, the Bartlett Panthers traveled to the Munford Gymnasium to take on the Cougars.

The contest was competitive throughout Jan. 19 with the visiting Panthers prevailing 41-35.

Bartlett managed to take a 23-20 advantage into the locker room after a three-pointer at the buzzer. The Cougars behind the shooting of Domonique Bell outscored Bartlett 7-5 in a slow-pace third quarter.

With the Panthers nursing a 1-point lead into the fourth quarter, Bartlett was able to use defense and good foul shooting to outscore Munford 13-8.

The Munford teams welcome the Dyer County Choctaws to town Friday night at 6 p.m.
