Mr. James Casey “JC” Floyd of Millington, celebrated his 101st birthday on September 8, 2020. JC was born in Tishomingo County, Miss., on September 8, 1919.
His parents were Richard Perry and Carrie Durham Floyd. He is the only surviving sibling out of 10 children. JC married Vivian Mae Hart of Paden, Miss., in 1940 and was married for 60 years before her death in 2000.
They made Millington their home in the late 1940’s when he went to work at the Naval Base as an electrician.
He retired from the base after 35 years in 1982. They have five children; Joan (Sims), Anthony, Billy, Casey (in heaven) and Janet. JC has 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 18 great, great grandchildren and one great, great, great granddaughter. JC is a member of Millington First Baptist Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Millington Senior Citizens, and received his 75-year pin from the Masons not too long ago.
Last year he told The Millington Star “I’m blessed to stay this long to see all of my grandkids and their children,” Floyd said. “Ain’t too many people living to be 100 years old. When I was younger, I said if I stay alive to be 101, don’t make a big deal out of it.”
His family honored him this year with a small cookout. Last year he received the Key to the City of Millington. This year he said he was hoping to receive keys to a new car. He is always quick with a joke or a story, which his grandchildren are still not sure if they are true or not.
His daughter said he even got on the lawn mower a few weeks ago and cut the back yard, one of his favorite things to do. When family members or friends come by to talk, we are amazed at how much he remembers from the past, just like it was yesterday. Our family is very blessed to still have him in our lives.
