Path to title No. 2 for Lady Rebels

To reach the title game, the Tipton-Rosemark Academy Lady Rebels got a home run from senior Ashton Needham at top of sixth inning last Thursday in Murfreesboro. Needham was first batter in that inning against the University School of Jackson Lady Bruins. She came in to pitch in the bottom of fifth when score was3-1 in favor of USJ. After Needham’s homer, USJ walked next batter and senior Jordan Collins placed down a sacrifice bunt. The USJ pitcher walked two more loading bases. TRA senior Sally Downing was hit by a pitch scoring the next run to tie the game. Taylor Beasley grounded to third scoring the Lady Rebels last run of the inning to make the score 4-3 in favor of TRA in the sixth inning. USJ scored to tie the game at 4-4. A fielders choice at third followed by two strikeouts ended the Lady Bruins threat. Needham led off the top of the seventh with a hit to shortstop. She was moved to second by sac bunt by Jordyn Thornell. Collins walked and then Rachel Whitley was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Lady Rebel Katie Diggs came up with a big hit to left-centerfield scoring the two game-winning runs.

USJ sent four batters to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with no runs. The Lady Rebels were onto the championship game to face the Davidson Academy Lady Bears.
