Jordon Varnado (left) and the Haywood Tomcats were in town to take on the Munford Cougars Dec. 9 in the Munford Gymnasium. With Varnado, 6’5, is one of the top ranked forwards in the nation and younger brother of NBA player Jarvis Varnado. He had a couple of highlights against Munford with a dunk and block shot in Haywood’s 38-21 victory. Cougars Head Coach Butch Hopkins tried to limit possession from the high-flying Tomcats with long possessions. The plan was working with Haywood up 11-8 after one quarter. Haywood led 16-8 at the break.
The Tomcats slowly build their lead to double figures by the end of the third quarter at 24-13. Munford kept the deficit in single digits in the fourth quarter. But Haywood closed out the game on a 10-1 run to win by 17 points.
