Two sisters got a lesson in hard work and giving back at the recent annual International Goat Days Festival in Millington. Lucy and Sydney Harris joined their father Tim Sept. 11-12 at USA Stadium in Millington to host the Charity Pony Ride. After more than 300 riders, the girls and their pony Two Bits needed some rest. “They were tired after it was all done,” Tim recalled. “They learned it was hard work involved. And they also raised more than $1,300. So they know how important it is to give back.” Lucy, 12 and Sydney, 10, raised the money for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Lucy is a seventh grader at Elmore Park Middle and her sister Sydney is in the fifth grade at Altruria Elementary. With help from their Dad’s company Tim Harris Design Services and the Plant Place, the Harris girls had a patriotic display inviting in potential riders. Event organizers like City of Millington’s Katie Armitage praised the girls contributions to the 2015 Goat Days event. “She told me they did a great thing,” Tim said. “Katie was all over them about how great the pony rides were. Katie and the rest of the organizers were great to us and provided everything the kids needed.” With so much success in their first time organizing pony rides, the girls said they want to do it again in the future. “There will be more,” Tim concluded. “We want to do a split next time for the old and young. We want to raise money next year not only for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. We also want to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Foundation.”
