The Millington Star Editor Thomas Sellers Jr. was one of the panelists for the recent Memphis Area Black Journalists Power and Preps Panel held Saturday at the Cossitt Library in Downtown Memphis. Sellers was joined by his colleague, ABC 24’s Avery Braxton discussing the coverage of high school sports, the changing landscape of preps and how to be a sports journalist. Braxton broke down the television aspect of the business while Sellers gave background on newspapers and print coverage of high school athletes. Sellers and Braxton were invited to the panel by MABJ President Elle Perry and other members like Fox 13’s Jeremy Pierre were on hand at the invite to ask questions and assist with additional information about being a journalist.
