Star Staff Reports

As with everything else in life, playground equipment for parks has not only increased in size but also in price.

Fortunately for the City of Millington, the Millington Lions Club has applied for and received a grant from the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) in the amount of $100,000 to be used for new playground equipment which will be installed at Lions Park located at 4376 Oak Springs Drive and will be named Lions Park Playground.

This particular piece of equipment is for children ages 5-12 years of age and is the first replacement for children that age since 1999.

The equipment for 2–5-year-olds was replaced last year.

Words are inadequate to express the City’s appreciation to the Millington Lions and particularly to the Club President, Linda Overstreet, for this overwhelming gift for the children of our city.

A second check was presented as well from community donations and these donors will be honored with a plaque at the site when completed.

Additionally, a third check was awarded to cover additional equipment not covered under the grant application. Pictured are Millington Parks and Rec Katherine Webb and Tammy Walls, Millington Vice Mayor Mike Caruthers, and Millington Lions President Overstreet.
