The mission ahead of the Millington Lady Trojans May 8 was to sweep the double-header with the Fayette-Ware Lady Wildcats and repeat as District 15-3A champions. Millington took care of business in Game One on the new Lady Trojans Softball Field 16-0. Then the Lady Trojans focused and dominated Fayette-Ware once again to capture the championship by a 17-0 decision. In the winning effort Kaleigh Wilston was named District 15-3A Tournament MVP. Millington also got contributions from senior Daphne Fowler who hit an inside-the-park homer run in the second inning of Game One. Over notable performers in the two-game sweep were Grace Bell, Rilee Ervin, Shelby Pindell and Riley Washburn. Including Emma Smith, Breanna Hulsey and senior Kalia Duckworth, the group of Head Coach Kasey Craddock earned the top seed in this week’s Region 8-3A Tournament by the combined score of 33-0. Millington advanced as a No. 1 seed and took on the Hamilton Lady Wildcats. Hamilton were the runner-ups of District 16-3A losing to the Ridgeway Lady Roadrunners. Ridgeway hosted Fayette-Ware in the other Regional Semifinal.
Up the road in Ripley last week, the Munford Lady Cougars of Head Coach Raygan Huffman outlasted the competition to win the District 14-3A Softball Tournament. The Lady Cougars advanced to host Regionals this past Monday night as well.
