Roland was first elected to the Shelby County Board of Commissioners in August 2010 to serve the people of District 4, Position 3.

In August 2014, Commissioner Roland was re-elected to serve the people of District 1, which includes Shelby Forrest, Millington, Arlington, Rosemark and the Kerrville area.

Following his re-election Commissioner Roland’s colleagues elected him Chairman Pro Tempore for the 2014-2015 session. In September, 2015, the Board of Commissioners elected him to serve as Chairman.

As Chairman his leadership skills fostered a more unified Commission, and he was able to demonstrate his belief that if one district succeeds, the entire county succeeds.

Commissioner Roland grew up in Millington where he graduated from Millington Central High School before enrolling at the University of Memphis.

He was employed for 8 years as the area coordinator with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), which allowed him to travel to all military bases in the continental United States.

Roland learned his work ethic from his mother and father, as he worked in his family businesses, Roland’s Amoco and Roland’s Tire Service.

In addition, Roland served on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Lottery, Professional Care Services and First Citizens Bank. As a past president of the Rural Action Group (RAG), Terry and the group of concerned citizens successfully fought annexation by Memphis.

He is a proud member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce, First Baptist Church in Millington, and a loyal member of the Highland Hundred. He is currently the President of the Forest Drive Civic Club.

He was blessed to have Christi Tedington accept his proposal of marriage, and the two of them currently reside in the Shelby Forest area with their six dogs.

Roland counts it an honor and privilege to serve Millington in this new role. He believes that with his extensive experience, strong network, and tenacious spirit it will be onward and upward in the Millington community. There will be a reception on Friday, August 10 at 2 p.m. for Chamber members, family, and friends. Location will be Millington City Hall.
