Memphis in May Triathlon and Dragonfly Triathlon have been cancelled for 2020.
This continues a trend of events related to the Millington area coming to a temporary halt this year because of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States.
Due to the COVID-19 concerns and safety of the public, the 2020 Mid-South Airshow scheduled to take place June 20-21 was cancelled inan attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Refunds were provided for those who have already bought tickets for the event.
“We are saddened that we have to cancel our favorite event of the year, but want to reiterate that safety is our number one priority and while we understand this news is disappointing to our air show fans, sponsors and supporters, we understand it is the right thing to do.
“We want to thank all our sponsors and volunteers for all the hard work that was put into the planning of this incredible event and look forward to the new Mid-South Airshow.”
Fast forward to July, the news was released earlier in the month about the longtime tradition of the MIM Triathlong. One of the highlight events of the annual Memphis in May was held at Millington’s Orgill Park for several years.
P.R. Event Management is extremely disappointed to announce that the 38th Annual Memphis in May Triathlon that had been rescheduled for August 22 and 23, 2020, is now cancelled.
Having raced, volunteered and managed the Memphis in May Triathlon for the past 35 years, we at P.R. Event Management must consider the health and safety of our racers, sponsors, volunteers and staff as our first priorities.
With the state of emergency for COVID-19 now extended to Aug. 29, 2020, by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, it is deemed unsafe to gather large crowds even outdoors. Unfortunately, this decision will also apply to the 31st Annual Dragonfly Sprint Triathlon scheduled in Sardis, Mississippi, on Aug. 29, 2020, which is also now cancelled.
Registered participants and all fees for the Memphis in May Triathlons or the Dragonfly Triathlon will automatically be transferred to the 2021 events.
These are unprecedented times for all of us, and P.R. Event Management encourages all of our triathletes, staff, sponsors and volunteers to stay safe and healthy. Please continue to follow the recommendations of health officials and wash your hands frequently, wear a mask in public and maintain social distancing as much as your situation allows. We support and cheer on your efforts to remain active and get outside this summer to bike, run and swim. We will all get through this stronger. Stay well!
