Signs of the 2022 Holiday Season had been popping up in Millington towards the end of November. Then on Dec. 1 about 5:30 p.m. at the Millington Fire Station No. 1 and Millington City Hall the reason for the season got an official kickoff when Santa arrived for pictures with area children.

Millington Mayor Terry Jones and his family arrived to celebrate the moment with the families in attendance and light the City’s Christmas Tree.

“With so much going on in Millington with growth and development, we have to always take time to celebrate our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and each other,” Jones said.

Area children like Knox Trundle of Millington and Eli Greer of Drummonds got pictures with the Jolly Man from the North Pole. 10-year-old Adeline Long spotted another holiday celebrity, the Grinch, and got a snapshot with him.

As the Millington Central Middle High School Jazz Band led by director Kreston Smith played holiday music, Jones got into position to handle the honors of lighting the tree.

At 6:30, Jones counted down with the children and at “one” the tree came to life and will be on display throughout the month.
