The 2015 season has been special for Millington Lady Trojan Volleyball seniors Emily Camp, Ally Hall and Ashley Freeze. The trio was a part of Millington finishing second in district and earning a home playoff. On Sept. 29, the season had another special moment when the Lady Trojans swept the Liberty Tech Lady Crusaders in three sets on Senior Night. “I thought that we played pretty good,” Millington Head Coach Jenna Harper said. “We improved from our first set. We didn’t look quite awake. But the second and the third set were really good. “We started playing defense and not giving them free balls,” she added. “We were serving tough and keeping the offense on our side every time we get a pass we set it and killed it. Instead of giving them a free ball and having to play the defensive side. We were very offensive.” After winning the first two sets, Millington dominated the third set to win 25-11. The score was 7-6 early in the third set when Dymond Green took control of the serve. When Green was done behind the line, the Lady Trojans were ahead 21-7. While Green mixed in some aces, her teammate Addison Coulter controlled the net with blocks and kills. Lady Trojans like Freeze and Paige Hall set Coulter for kills that made the score 19-6 and 21-6. “She definitely stepped it up today, especially in that third set,” Harper noted of Coulter. “She was really going for the ball. She’s transition back and is really giving a lot of effort.” Coulter is one of the talented underclassmen on the team who will play a key roll in Millington’s upcoming postseason run. The entire team set a goal of earning a banner for the season started. The road to a black and gold marker started Monday in the William Osteen Gymnasium. But the previous game on that court symbolizing Senior Night was a must win for Harper for her trio of Camp, Hall and Freeze.
“I’ve had these girls here now for two years,” Harper concluded. “They mean a lot to me and I want the best for them. It was great to send them off with a win in there last home game. But I hope we have another month together.”
