Kimberly Shamblin has been named 2015-16 TAEA Middle Level Art Educator of the Yearby Tennessee Art Education Association. Shamblin is an art teacher who is passionate about her students and about art education. She taught elementary art for Shelby County Schools for eighteen years, and has been an art educator at Millington Middle School in West Tennessee the last two years. Shamblin exemplifies the characteristics of an outstanding arts educator. She is active in the arts in her community, painting murals for several private residences, as well as the Millington Public Library, E. A. Harrold Elementary School, and Millington Middle School. She regularly attends state and national professional development conferences to stay abreast of current trends in art education. Shamblin has taught professional development classes at the Brooks Museum, in-service days for Shelby County Schools, and E.A. Harrold Elementary School. For the last ten years, Kim has been a facilitator for the Tennessee Arts Academy, working as the liaison between the instructor and the teacher participants. Shamblin was honored with this award at the TAEA Fall Professional Development Conference at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, during an Awards Dinner on Oct. 29 at Arrowmont. The conference is sponsored in part by the Tennessee Arts Commission. This award is given to recognize excellence in professional accomplishment and service by a dedicated art educator. Shamblin exemplifies the highly qualified individuals who are in the field of art education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars, and advocates who give their best to the profession. We are proud to recognize Kimberly Shamblin with our 2015-16 TAEA Middle Level Art Educator of the Year.
The Tennessee Art Education Association is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance quality visual arts education through advocacy, leadership, professional development, and to promote a cohesive professional community. The membership of TAEA includes elementary, middle level and high school art teachers in Tennessee, representatives from Tennessee’s major art museums, arts councils, and major colleges and universities throughout Tennessee.
