The Millington Showstoppers cruise to a 155-95 over the Atlanta Regulators Saturday in the William Osteen Gymnasium.
Despite giving up 51 points by halftime, the Showstoppers kept their lead in the Official Basketball Association Independent Division with 81 points in the first half. The Showstoppers outscored Atlanta 35-28 in the third quarter to seize control of the contest.
“We’re 6-0 and we’re No. 1 in our division,” Millington Head Coach Anthony Jones said. “We’re preparing to hit the road going to Fayetteville, N.C., next weekend.
Then we’ll be back her for doubleheader. At home, we’re expecting better games with a team from Virginia and one from Louisville, Ky.”
With the game out of hand, the Showstoppers continued to display the sets that helped them build a large lead in the fourth quarter. Millington players were moving without the ball, spreading the floor on fast breaks for dunks and rotating the ball for open three-pointers.
But Jones noted giving up big runs on the other end and Atlanta scoring more than 20 points in three quartrers is concerning.
“I preach that all the time, spacing and sharing the ball,” he said. “They are one and they’re buying in. As long as they’re buying in, we’ll be alright.
“Defense, a lot of time we’re slipping on D and they start scoring,” Jones concluded. “The game will get out of hand and we get lackadaisical. We need 48 minutes of defense.”
