DYERSBURG — The Millington Trojans knew what they were in for as they headed to Dyersburg for a Second Round playoff matchup.

After all, just three weeks ago the Dyersburg Trojans smacked the Trojans around pretty good in a 51-0 win on a rainy, windy night.

Dyersburg was a perfect 11-0 coming into the game and they advance to the Quarterfinals by knocking off Millington 49-20 Friday night. The Trojans of Millington end their season with a 6-5 record.

The story of the game was in the first half. Millington made mistakes and Dyersburg capitalized on them including a 55 yard interception return for a touchdown and another long interception return that gave them the ball at the Trojans 5 yard line.

Millington recovered a fumbled punt that gave them the ball at the Dyersburg 31 but were unable to score and were down at the half 35-0.

Millington Head Coach Chris Michael challenged his young team at the half and they responded quite well.

Garret Haley recovered the onside kick to start the second half and 4 plays later, Cortlynn Barnes took off on a 42 yard touchdown run.

Haley then recovered another onside kick, this one at the Dyersburg 11 and three plays later McCoy Pugh scored to cut the lead to 35-13 but that was as close as they were able to get.

The Millington ground game was most impressive as they rushed for 187 yards in the game. Barnes had 16 carries for 121 yards to go along with the TD.

Pugh finished with 71 yards rushing and had two  touchdowns in the game.

Haley led the defense with 7.5 tackles, recovered a fumble on the punt and recovered both onside kicks.

Barnes chipped in with six tackles as well.

This team was extremely young as 35 of the 56 players were either freshmen or sophomores.

There were a number of them that contributed greatly this season and big things will be expected from them going forward. Thanks to all of the seniors for their contributions to the program during their time here at Millington.
