SPORTS ALERT- Lady Cardinals still alive, Gatlin big in return

JACKSON — Brighton Lady Cardinals Head Coach Stan Gatlin summarized his team’s upset Monday with the phrase, “Great team effort.”

The Lady Cardinals are still alive winning 57-35 over the Liberty Lady Crusaders. The leading scorers were a returning DeMiyah Gatlin with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and her teammate Cassidy Johnson dropped 19 points as well to go along with 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Precious Dennisdan contributed 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals, and Talea Taylor with 7 points and 12 rebounds. The Lady Cardinals will be in Regionals this season and advance to take on the Hardin County Lady Tigers tonight on the road.

The other District 13-3A girls semifinals will be between the Munford Lady Cougars vs. Dyer County Lady Choctaws tonight in Dyer County.

IN OTHER ACTION

Tipton-Rosemark Academy Lady Rebels took on the Northpoint Lady Trojans in Division II-A West Regional action. Northpoint pulled off the upset with a 41-32 win forcing the Lady Rebels to face the top seeded USJ Lady Bruins tonight on the road.

The Rebel boys picked up a big 67-60 win over the FACS Crusaders. In other boys action in District 15-2A, the Haywood Tomcats earned a Regional birth beating the Millington Trojans 77-54 at home.
