This has already been a very special year for the Millington Trojans Wrestling program.
The Trojans won the district, Region and Sectional dual team championships and advanced to the State Tournament for duals for the first time in 30 years.
The individual tournaments started shortly after and the Trojans won the district, Region and added their first Sectional individual title on Feb. 17 at Harpeth. Millington will send 10 wrestlers to the State Tournament in Franklin this weekend.
That ties a boys’ single-season record previously set three times in 1990, 1991 and 1994. Factor in that Morgan Gilley advanced to the girls’ State Tournament on Feb. 16, that makes a grand total of 11 Trojan wrestlers having an opportunity at a State championship this Friday and Saturday.
The Trojans had a record number of people participating in wrestling this season and it has turned into a very special year. Thanks to coaches Jeremy Haley, Jake Haley, Mike Iannaco, Christy Withers and Diego Reyes along with numerous parents and boosters for making dreams become reality and creating memories they will cherish for a lifetime.
2024 State Tournament Info: Tickets are $12 per day if you buy them in advance on GoFan. They are $15 per day if purchased with cash at the gate. Everyone school-age or older must purchase a ticket. Parking is $5 per day. It can be purchased in advance on GoFan or with cash upon arrival. No outside food will be allowed to be brought into the arena and the use of crockpots, microwaves, air mattresses and pop-up tents is prohibited. There will be concession stands and vendors selling food.
Gates will open at 7:30 a.m. on Friday and matches get underway at 10 a.m. Friday night at 6:30 p.m. will have the championship semifinals. Saturday morning, the gates will open at 6:30 a.m. with action getting underway at 9 a.m. The championship matches will get underway at 5:30 p.m. that day.
