SPORTS ALERT- Several Cougars and Trojans heading to State this weekend

Millington’s Mallory Howard and her teammate Teresa Hutchinson make history by qualifying for State this weekend in Franklin.

Millington Lady Trojans wrestlers Mallory Howard and Teresa Hutchinson qualified for the TSSAA State Championships at Bartlett High School Friday. This is only the second year that Millington Girls Wrestling.

Saturday crowned a Regional champions for an area wrestlers. 

Munford grappler Quenston Davis won the 152-pound division. Davis won over Fairview senior John Spicer. The Munford sophomore will head into the State Tournament as a No. 1 seed.

Among other area wrestlers heading to State this weekend in Franklin are Munford senior Zach Smith taking third place in the 285-pound division winning 4-1 over Malik Collins of Martin Luther King.

In 195, Millington will be represented by Rylene Keme. The sophomore came in second place at Regionals losing to Fairview senior Kendrick Curtis. Also reaching State in 195 is Munford senior Ethan Gullett.

Millington’s Alejandro Gutierrez came close to winning the 145-pound division dropping the championship match to Luke London of Sycamore.

Another Trojan heading to State will be Dylan Chapman who took third place in 138. Chapman won the third-place match over Adam Anderson of Creek Wood by fall at 2:39.

Munford is also sending London Bridges to State. The sophomore qualified in 132. His teammate Carter Sisco has reached Franklin in the 126-pound division beating Rutland Harris of Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet in the third-place match.

In the 120-pound division, Millington Central will be represented by William Howard. The junior won the third-place match in a fall 4:12 over Isaiah Brasher of Hillwood.

Trojan Dalton Lopez reached State taking second place in 113. He was outlasted by Lucas Martin of Hillwood.

Then a piece of Millington Central Middle High School history in the 106 division. Eighth grader Derrick Bolden took home the Region title by beating Dallas Day of Fairview with a fall 3:50.

Millington finished third as a team with 113.5 points and Munford came in fourth place with 91 points. Fairview left the meet as the team winner with 178.5 points.

The Division I and Girls Individual State Wrestling Tournament will be held Thursday to Saturday in Franklin at the Williamson County Expo Center at the Williamson County Agricultural Exposition Park.
