Staring in 2021-22 the state of Tennessee will have a fourth high school classification for the sports of baseball, basketball and softball.

The TSSAA Board of Control met today at Siegel and adopted the measure. The Board voted football classifications will remain the same with six classes in Division I and three in Division II.

The new alignment starting in 2021 with four Division I classifications will be divided evenly by enrollment. The classification will be set for the next two years.

The TSSAA added a third classification in track and field. The format will still bring the same number of competitors to the State championships. Eight competitors will compete in the Class A and AA State championships and 16 in Class AAA.

The TSSAA must now wait to get 20th-day enrollments from schools across the state. Once those are submitted, the TSSAA can divide schools into all four classes.
