Life is all about the Journey and not the Destination… the destination for this years 2021 Wrestling Championship was in Chattanooga.    We had two All State Wrestlers this year.  Malik at 113 and Eli at 160.  Our Region team battled incredibly hard at Fairview and we qualified “The Divine 9” for the State Championship.  Malik has wrestled for 3 years and is a two-time State placer.  Eli has wrestled 4 years and qualified his 1st time this year and then had a good tournament to place in the Top 6.
Yesterday (Feb. 26) in Chattanooga was a day filled with emotions as you watch all 9 warriors battle with everything they have to prolong the inevitable, their last match of the season and for the seniors their last match of their career.
For many of our wrestlers the goal for the destination is to stand on the State podium with an All-State Medal.
You have to realize that the best part of all of this is the emotional roller coaster you ride on the journey.  There is plenty of blood, sweat and many tears that go into a wrestler standing on any podium!  Our “Divine 9” stood on the Region Championship Podium two weeks ago!
When you look at a few of the pictures you see the two wrestlers that placed at State and congratulations are in order for Malik and Eli.
What I Love about Millington Wrestling is the Journey!    We had quite a few very emotional ends to seasons that should have ended differently yesterday and it is incredibly hard to see these young men pick themselves up off the mat, while holding back tears.   There is a great support group of Coach’s and parents that Love on these young men as they are our sons!
To all of you underclassmen that qualified and didn’t make the podium, next season starts in 8 months.  To the seniors that battled, fought and left it all on the mat “I’m proud of you and I love you”
If you laugh, think and cry that’s a heck of day!
After 700 miles and a 22-hour day from Millington to Chattanooga and back I want to say thank you to all the warriors for allowing me to be a part of one heck of a day!
