Maggie Gamble, of the City of Millington, invited The Millington Star Editor Thomas Sellers Jr. out for a day of games and enjoyment as part of the Summer of Fun Pre-K Play 2025.
Activities moved indoors on July 1 at the Baker Community Center for Gamble’s group.
The day was dedicated to words, reading and visual aids. Sellers brought the recent Star Coverage edition of the newspaper for the children to execute a scavenger hunt finding 10 items thoughout the paper.
The parents played alone with the children locating dogs, Trojans, cars and even Sellers.
“This was really fun and nice to see the children interact with an actual newspaper,” Sellers said. “I was surprised they knew that a newspaper was and what I did for a living. The bonus was seeing the parents share memories The Star from their childhood.
Summer Fun started June 6 in Lions Park with March in the Park Play. The Summer of Fun Pre-K Play is a free program offered by Millington Parks & Recreation and the Millington Public Library that provides games and activities developmentally appropriate to young children age 2 to 5. Each session runs from 11 a.m. to noon. Registration is required by visiting www.millingtontn.gov
