One of the longest operating businesses in Millington has aged very well.

Almost 60 years ago, Scottie Gladney opened his barber shop and the business eventually grew into Scotties Cut and Color Specialists. From the beginnings on Navy Road and moving from the 4958 address to its current home in the Patriot Plaza at 8370 Highway 51 North, the tradition of trendy styles, family atmosphere and customer-first service continues.

Scotties’ move to its present-day location will be 16 years in December. It was Feb. 1, 2013 when the current owners Pamela Shinosky, Lisa Hawkins, Tony Smith and Susan Gladney where handed the baton.

“He started out as a barber and eventually turned around to start doing women’s hair,” Shinosky recalled. “He eventual transformed it into a unisex salon. The four of us were not here doing that time. I would adventure to say that was around the 70s.

“Most of us started working here in the 80s and he eventually retired at the age of 70,” she continued. “We took over. He wanted people who had been loyal to him up until that time to take over. The four of us took that on.”

The current crew styling and trimming customers at Scotties works as a cohesive unit. Visitors who come by for appointments are on a first-name basis. Top equipment and the latest technology awaits them to create a hairstyle to envy.

The team at Scotties also offers classes and participates in shows. Also studying and developing their skills, the stylists at Scotties said all the hard work is to give customers their best.

“We want to give you our best from the time you walk in that door,” Hawkins said, “to the time you walk out that door and even after. We love our customers. They’re our family.”

Shinosky second that motion because years of loyal support has developed a unique bond at Scotties.

“We love what we do,” she said. “We love making people handsome and beautiful. He (Scottie) was very instrumental in teaching us how to do our jobs and do them well. We continue to that and we do not simp on time. No matter how busy we are it’s all about taking care of the customers and making time for them.”

Gladney, Hawkins, Smith and Shinosky are proud to represent the name on the marquee and the residents of Millington and the surrounding area carrying on a nearly 60-year-old tradition.

“We are very, very thankful for the many loyal customers who past through these doors,” Shinosky said. “All those years, we’ve done the hair of almost four generations. We’re talking grandparents, parents, children and even grandchildren.

“We do appreciate the support we’ve always got from Millington,” she concluded. “We love Millington and it is a great place to work. God has blessed us.”

Scotties is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The location is 8370 Highway 51 North in Suite 109. For more information, call 873-HAIR (3423).
