On Wednesday, Feb. 25, deputies assigned to Millington Central Middle High School responded to a bomb threat targeting the school.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers, along with SCSO School Response Deputies, Tennessee Homeland Security, and Millington Police and Fire Department personnel, immediately coordinated a thorough search of the campus while ensuring all students were safely secured in a separate area.
Following a comprehensive search, authorities found the threat to be unfounded. SCSO Detectives launched an intensive investigation, with vital assistance from Tennessee Homeland Security. Detectives identified and apprehended the individual responsible for the threat.
On March 6, a 16-year-old male teen was formally charged with making threats of mass violence against a school.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office commends the rapid, coordinated response of all agencies involved, whose professionalism and dedication ensured the safety of students and staff at Millington Central Middle High School. Our commitment to the security of our schools and communities remains unwavering.
“The safety of our students and schools is always our top priority,” said Chief Deputy Anthony Buckner.
“We will not tolerate threats of violence, and we are committed to holding individuals accomltable. I am proud of the swift action and teamwork displayed by all responding agencies as well as the comprehensive investigation conducted by our detectives, which ensured the well-being of everyone at the school.”
