This past weekend Brighton High School’s Desiree Dyson made history for Tipton County as she captured the crown of Miss Tennessee’s Teen Princess 2015. Desiree is the first titleholder from Tipton County to win a state title in the Miss Tennessee Organization. Not only did Desiree make Tipton County history, but she is also the first African American to be crowned as Miss Tennessee Teen Princess since it began in 2004. The event was held at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson and is a sanctioned title in the Miss Tennessee Organization. Desiree’s local title was Miss Tipton County’s Teen Princess. Winning the pageant involved competing in three different phases of competition: private interview, fitness wear, and evening gown. This competition was held in conjunction with the Miss Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen Pageant. In a beautiful night of events, Desiree’s former sister crown, Allie Privitt, who represented our area in the pageant last year, won the title of Miss Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen 2015 and will go on to compete in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando. Allie and Desiree will work together this year promoting their personal platforms as well as Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the Miss Tennessee Organization, and the Miss America Organization. As Miss Tipton County’s Teen Princess, Desiree promoted her personal platform of “Forever Endeavors: Bullying Prevention and Education” by coordinating and volunteering at many events in our community and will continue to spread her message throughout the state with her new title. Some of her most noteworthy events include: working with the Boys and Girls Club of the Hatchie River Region and local leaders to host an anti-bullying summit, implementing a bullying awareness patch with Girl Scout Troop 13806 , visiting numerous classrooms throughout Tipton and Shelby counties, and obtaining a mayoral proclamation for a Bullying Awareness Week in Brighton.
Desiree is the daughter of Maurice and Twyalla Dyson of Covington. She is a sophomore at Brighton High School where she is varsity cheerleader and active member of Health Occupations Students of America. Dyson is also a member of the Tipton County Junior Auxiliary’s Crown Club.
