Prior to Friday night’s kickoff of the 2016 M&M Bowl in the Munford Football Stadium, the five branches of the United States Military were recognized by Munford High School Principal Dr. Courtney Fee and Tipton County Schools Superintendent Dr. William E. Bibb during the 2016 Armed Forces Game. On hand to receive the recognition, gratitude and commemorative plaques were members of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy. Also participating in the pregame ceremony were Atoka Mayor W. Daryl Walker, Millington Mayor Terry Jones and Munford Mayor Dwayne Cole. “It’s important No. 1 because these people are protecting our country, hence protecting us,” Fee said. “No. 2 it’s such a vibrant part of our school. We have a large number of military parents and military families. It’s just so important everybody knows we appreciate their involvement in our school and how much we appreciate everything they do for us as citizens.” The first Armed Forces game was held last season when the rival Covington Chargers came to town to take on the Munford Cougars. The Cougars pulled out a thrilling victory in their camo jerseys. This year Munford sported full camouflaged uniforms taking down the Millington Trojans 28-0.
“It’s a special night at the end of the day we feel a part of something that is very much bigger than ourselves,” Fee concluded. “Millington and Covington are both places we feel a comradery with. It’s definitely a competition but we have that comradery there. We are all part of something bigger than ourselves. And our Armed Forces protect all of us.”
