Senior night for Millington Trojans Remiello Thomas, Jayden Woodard, Jalin Cole and Kaveyon Lewis was trending toward a happy ending last Thursday night.
But the festivities in the William Osteen Gymnasium were spoiled by the visiting Bolivar Central Tigers pulling out a 68-59 victory.
The Trojans were ahead 36-34 at the break after erasing a 20-15 Bolivar first quarter lead. Millington was paced in the opening frame by senior guard Woodard pouring in 7 points. Woodard opened up the second quarter with a basket to make the tally 20-17.
After the Tigers went ahead 27-17, the Trojans responded with a 19-7 run to close out the first half. Woodward hit a triple and jumper during that stretch. His classmate Cole contributed with a couple of foul shots and baskets inside added 7 points helping the Trojans take the lead before halftime.
The third quarter was competitive with the Tigers only outscoring the Trojans 18-12. Sophomore Trojan guard Seth Grandberry hit a pair of three-pointers during the period. Grandberry’s second triple in the third quarter made the tally 50-48 in favor of Bolivar.
The Tigers scored the final bucket of the third quarter and build a 60-53 advantage early in the fourth quarter. Lewis cut the Bolivar lead to 60-56 hitting a deep three-pointer. After Woodard made a free throw to make the tally 60-57, the Tiger roared with a 8-2 run down the stretch to earn the District 15-2A victory.
