The part of Shelby County known as Flag City and home of the VFW Post 7175 and American Legion 252 saw a need for a special way to pay tribute to those who served and call Millington home.
Millington is also the home of NSA Mid-South with thousands of servicemen and servicewomen working in the town everyday. Back in 2014 the City of Millington brought back the Veteran’s Day Parade.
Under the cloud of a global pandemic, there were doubts if the Seventh Annual Flag City Veteran’s Day Parade would take place on the first Saturday in November. Last week the City of Millington program coordinator Alex Harris announced that Nov. 7 at 10:30 a.m. the Veteran’s Day Parade is scheduled to take place.
“We have reached out to the participants, from last years parade,” she noted. “Their responses have led us to this decision. Our veteran participants look forward to this event each year. With that being said, it’s extremely important for our community to come together to show our support. It is always a joy for the City of Millington to be able to host this event in their honor.”
Millington is inviting out all current and past soldiers of the United States to the Seventh Annual Flag City Veteran’s Day Parade along Navy Road. Rain, sleet, snow or shine, the event is scheduled to take place with participants marching down Navy until reaching Leroy Boatwright Street.
Since the Parade returned in 2014, after a nearly 40-year absence. The VFW Post 7175 has played a huge part in the preparation and execution of the parade. The city of Millington and several local organizations and businesses contribute to the tribute to our veterans.
The Parade will give civilians a chance to express gratitude to those who served in the Armed Forces, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Reserves.
“We ask that as you join us for the parade on Nov. 7,”Harris said. “You must maintain a six foot distance from others. You can park along the parade route to watch from the safety of your vehicle. Dress patriotic, wave flags, and show your support. We look forward to a fun and safe parade.”
