Tipton County Officer Involved in Shooting Update

Detectives with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office and Munford Police Department and Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation worked throughout the night in the shooting incident involving three suspects and a Tipton County Sheriff’s Office investigator.
Formal charges will be filed Monday on Montavo Deshan Terry, 19 of 368 Keeling Road in Stanton,

, 18 of 620 Junior Drive in Covington and a 17 year old juvenile from Mason. Tipton County Sheriff’s Office narcotic investigator, Demario Avery remains on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Investigator Avery is a nine-year veteran and was not injured in the shooting. The trio admitted to their roles in the shooting.
The investigation revealed that Hines was on the parking lot of McDonald’s and allegedly approached a green four door vehicle, related to an earlier argument, occupied by Terry and the 17 year old juvenile with a handgun which was stopped at the traffic light on McLaughlin Road and Highway 51 South in Munford. Investigator Avery was in an unmarked vehicle behind the suspect vehicle. Hines shot at the subjects in the vehicle, the subjects in the vehicle shot at Hines and then pointed weapons and shot at Investigator Avery. Terry and the 17-year-old juvenile, who were armed with a shotgun and handgun, fled the scene on foot but was later located and questioned in the case. Hines who also left the scene was transported by personal vehicle to Baptist Memorial Hospital Tipton.

The 17-year-old juvenile received medical treatment for a gunshot to the leg and Hines was treated for multiple pellet injuries to his head, face and upper body. Hines (pictured in the light blue shirt) is being charged with 2 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, 2 counts of Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony and Reckless Endangerment by Munford Police Department. Fayne and the 17 year old juvenile is being charged by TBI with Attempted Second Degree Murder, Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony and Reckless Endangerment. Hines and Terry are being held at the Tipton County Correctional Facility pending their arraignment in Tipton County General Sessions Courts on Tuesday. The 17 year old juvenile is being held at the Shelby County Juvenile Detention center pending his arraignment on Tuesday in Tipton County Juvenile Court.
