Thursday is the scheduled last day for the Millington Big Lots in the same shopping center as Kroger. For years, Big Lots located at 8055 Highway 51 North was a place to buy snacks, groceries, household items, electronics and even furniture. Big Lots filed for bankruptcy back in September and as part of its bankruptcy process, about 200 stores have been turned over to be run by Variety Wholesalers. On the other hand, more than 600 are currently for sale. News came down during the holidays that the Millington location was on the chopping block. Another group of about 460 locations were listed for sale by Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. That list was updated recently with more than 200 more Big Lots locations, with the leases up for sale and offers due by this past Monday. Big Lots closing are a part of the trend of retail stores closures like Macy’s, Kohl’s and Party City.
