With the Millington First Baptist Church serving as a backdrop, crews have been leveling the grounds for the future shopping complex Forked River Commons. Millington’s 20-Year Master Plan had proposed that the entire 11.07-acre property from the Millington First Baptist Church east to the highway be commercial zoning.The planning staff recommended that the property be re-zoned from R-1, Low-Density Residential, to B-2, General Commercial. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously passed a re-zoning ordinance on first reading last February and on final reading at its March 14, 2022 meeting. While noting that three outparcels will be along the Highway 51 frontage, he said most of the proposed buildings will be constructed on Lot 5, with a single building on Lot 1. Individual businesses will be constructed on Lots 2, 3 and 4.
