At the beginning of 2025, the official groundbreaking of the new veterans’ medical facility occurred in Millington at the site of the former E.A. Harrold Elementary School. The VA-CBOC (Community-Based Outpatient Clinic) is starting to take shape throughout the month of June.  The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is an agency of the federal government that provides benefits, health care, and cemetery services to military veterans. Back in 2024, the Millington Planning Commission approved a site plan for the reuse of EA Harrold School as a VA Outpatient clinic.  The property was to be purchased by a private developer who would complete the refit and lease the property to the VA. The VA has since determined that they prefer to tear down EA Harrold and replace it with a purpose built clinic building. As before, a private developer is making the application, building the clinic, and leasing it back to the VA. The new structure would need to accommodate more than 4,800 veterans. The project is proposed for a 43,001 square-foot VA Outpatient clinic on West Union Road. The building will front West Union and the parking lot will provide access to Wilkinsville Road. The proposal exceeds city parking standards. Elevations have been provided.
