As developments goes up in Millington and blight is being taken down across Flag City, many residents are keeping an eye on the old car wash across the street from Walmart behind Raceway. Change to the area is coming soon as the Millington Board of Mayor and Aldermen has unanimously approved a Development Agreement for construction of Phase 1 of the Millington Farms Mixed-Use Planned Development. Board members took the action during their May 8 regular monthly meeting on a motion offered by Alderman Don Lowry and seconded by Alderman Bethany Huffman. A resolution to approve the agreement states that Millington Farms Holdings LLC owns a 24-acre tract zoned R-4, High-Density Residential, east of the Shoppes of Millington Farms and Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse. The entire MUPD, which will be located on 103.74 acres, will include retail, office and hotel components, as well as multi-family housing facilities. An Outline Plan that the Millington Planning Commission approved for the MUPD includes a Site Plan and a Phasing Plan, with Phases 1 and 2 consisting of apartment units. On April 17, the commission approved the bond amount of $2,261,442.62 for Phase 1. City Planner Nathaniel McHaffie has said the bond covers a “collector” road and the installation of utilities, as well as grading and erosion control.   At its September 2022 meeting, the commission unanimously approved a subdivision for Phase 1, which will consist of two lots.
